History of Best Women Golfers

We wanted to pass on this incredible list of Lady Golfers throughout Modern History. By Gina Scanlon Here she counts down from 10 to number 1 of the Best Women Golfers of our time. 10. Louise Suggs claimed 58 wins and 11 major championships, including wins at the U.S. and British amateurs. She played from 1937 – 1958. 9. Patty Berg is credited with 60 wins by the LPGA, and 15 of them were majors. She played from 1935 – 1980. 8. Lorena Ochoa had a short, but fruitful career. The Mexican player turned pro in 2002 and won 27 times on the LPGA Tour, including 2 majors. Plus, she was the first player to win over $4 million in one season, which included her 2007 Women’s British Open win at St. Andrews. 7. Betsy King has won 6 majors, 34 LPGA Tour victories, and is known for winning at least once every year from 1984-1994, with a high of 6 victories in 1989. She was named Player of the Year 3 times. She is also the last American female player to date to be the leading money winner on the LPGA Tour. 6. Babe Didrikson Zaharias was a classic player with 41 recognized Tour wins, many more amateur wins, and 10 majors. In 1945, she played four PGA Tour events, and made the 36-hole cut in 3 of them! There is no other woman who has done this to date. 5. Nancy Lopez was a giant player in her era, winning 48 times, and played the most individual seasons of her time. She finished second in the 1975 U.S. Women’s Open at only 18 years old, and turned pro 2 years later. She only ended up winning 3 majors, but that’s nothing to sneeze at. 4. Karrie Webb The Aussie player turned pro in 1994, and between 1999 and 2002, she won 6 major championships and a total of 17 titles on the LPGA Tour. She is Australia’s most successful female pro golfer to date, and she’s not done! 3. Mickey Wright won 82 times, including 13 majors, and double-digit wins in 4 straight years. Unfortunately she retired from full-time touring at the tender age of 34. 2. Kathy Whitworth turned pro at just 19-years-old in 1958, and won 88 LPGA Tour events (more than any other woman) AND more than any man has won on a tour. She was also the first woman to make $1 million on the LPGA Tour. 1. Annika Sörenstam Undisputed as the best female golfer who has ever played the game, the now-retired Swedish player turned pro in 1992, and has set...
